This Apple Watch cover was inspired by Steampunk science fiction. It gives the 21st Century Apple Watch the look of an H.G. Wells era timepiece.  

The Apple Watch runs on electricity. This cover needed to look like it would be able to generate an electrical current in an era where the main source of power was steam - via burning coal to heat a boiler to make steam to create reciprocating motion to generate electricity to power the watch.  Given the watch's small size each side was given assigned one of those tasks. Thus the cover is broken into operational sections.
